I'm confused... a few days ago at the grocery store the cashier asked me if I wanted to buy stamps because they were about to go up. We still have plenty of stamps, so I turned down the offer. But after I left, I began to wonder what's the point of buying stamps if in a few days they won't be enough postage and I'll have to buy a bunch of 2 cent stamps?
Am I confused or ignorant or what exactly?! I don't know whether to feel intelligent or like I missed out on a good deal. lol!
Well, the new "forever" stamps will always cover the price of first-class postage, even if the price goes up. So theoretically you could buy "forever" stamps today at 44 cents and in thirty years when first-class postage costs a dollar, you could whip out one of your 44 cent stamps and it would still be all you would need for one letter. Pretty nifty.
Ordinary stamps though are only worth their face value, so you would need to add 2 cent stamps to make up the difference. Hope that helps. :)
You know what's funny? I forgot to buy stamps.

Ahhh, ok, that makes sense. :D
ReplyDeleteLol, in 30 yrs will anyone be using postage stamps?
ReplyDeleteI used to write about a dozen letters a week. Now I just write several dozen emails or blog and forum posts instead.
(Not forgetting text messages)
I only write letters to my inlaws (who don't have a pc) and send birthday and baby cards.

I still mail (some) of the bills with stamps.. I can't even remember the last time I sent a regular letter.
